Armed robbery in Smithfield

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery in Smithfield overnight.

Just before 6.30pm yesterday, police were called to a service station on the corner of Polding Street and The Horsley Drive.

Police said a man wearing a grey hooded jumper and balaclava entered the store and approached the male operator.

He was armed with a small knife and allegedly grabbed cash from the till, before running from the store.

He was last seen heading towards the Cumberland Highway where he jumped over the metal dividing fence on the median strip.

Police arrived a short time later and a crime scene was established, with the police dog unit in attendance.
