IT'S not often things can be summarised in 140 characters.

But in one 140-character tweet Panthers general manager Phil Gould hit the nail on the head on where the Penrith Panthers are after 12 rounds.

"Midway thru season Panthers NRL 2nd position, NSW Cup team 1st position. Long way to go but progress is good," he tweeted.

Progress is indeed good at the foot of the mountains and it is based on one thing: the team.

No individual is bigger than the team and in all situations the team comes first.

Panthers fans responded on Friday night to their selfless team with their first sell-out crowd since 2010 — the first time they were in the playoffs.

It helped Penrith to a 32-18 win against local rivals Parramatta and moved them into second position on the ladder.

Coach Ivan Cleary was full of praise for his team who have now won three games in a row for the first time this year.

"We play a team style game and everybody at the moment is putting their hand up for that.

"It's early days, our job is to back that up next week, but there's still a fair way to go," he said.

"We obviously have a plan at the club and it's fair to say we're moving in the right direction.

"Some of the players we've brought in are definitely experienced — Peter Wallace, Jamie Soward (pictured) and Brent Kite — those sorts of blokes.

"And while they are in a new team, they understand how to play and we've built our game around those guys."

The Panthers play the Titans on Saturday night at Cbus Super Stadium. Kick-off is 5.30pm.
