Man threatens to set neighbour on fire in Fairfield East

Police have charged a man after he allegedly broke into a unit at Fairfield East and poured diesel onto the staircase, forcing a man for jump out of the window.

A 58-year-old man forced entry into the premises on Montrose Avenue, armed with diesel, an iron bar, a screwdriver, hammer and matches about 4pm yesterday.

Police allege that he confronted his 44-year-old male neighbour, before allegedly pouring the diesel onto the staircase.

The occupant jumped out of the second floor window to get away.

The older man allegedly ran after him and threatened him with an iron bar.

Fairfield police attended and arrested the 58-year-old.

He was charged with aggravated breaking and entering with the intent to assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today.

No-one was injured during the incident.
