Elite 1 football

It was a disappointing weekend for the three local teams in the National Premier League's NSW Men's Elite 1 competition.

The Marconi Stallions fell tantalising short of a well-earned point against the high-flying Spartans, losing in injury time 3-2, after scoring two late goals to level the game.

Sydney United 58 FC also let points slip after Luka Glavas missed a penalty in stoppage time which left the scores locked at 1-all with APIA-Leichhardt Tigers.

Not even the appearance of former Sydney FC skipper Terry McFlynn could help Bonnyrigg as they went down 4-1 to Blacktown City.

The three-day tournament is in its fourth year and will see competitors from Australia and a contingent of overseas players from South Korea, Japan, China, and New Zealand compete for a prize of $20,000.
