Eels coach Brad Arthur has lamented a lack of spirit in their 42-14 loss to the North Queensland Cowboys.

The blue and gold rallied from an early 18-0 deficit to head to the sheds at 18-14.

But the Cowboys took the reigns in the second half as the Eels put in their worst second half of the season.

"We just played with a lack of spirit," Arthur said.

"At times we played with a little bit, and it got us back into the game.

"Then something didn't go our way . . . and we dropped our heads."

The Eels will have no problem with spirit for their next clash against the Cronulla Sharks on Monday, May 12, at Pirtek Stadium.

The teams will be playing for the Johnny Mannah Cup.

The Eels will need to work on their ball control to avoid three straight losses.

"We only completed at 47 per cent in the second half, and 55 per cent for the game," Arthur said. "It doesn't matter who you're playing against, you can't give them that much ball and expect to keep yourselves in the game."
