THE Lao Community of Sydney raised $10,000 for the NSW Bushfire Victims Appeal after it held a fund-raising dinner in Canley Heights late last year.
The community members said they decided to raise the money because, as refugees from Laos living in Australia, they wanted to help their fellow Australians in this time of need.
Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone said it was a "wonderful" example of the generous Aussie spirit.
"It also endorses my pride in Fairfield City and my position as mayor when I see our community members uniting in this way to help those in need," he said.
