Hats on ladies, it's your time to shine

Bold colours, sculptured head pieces and daring dresses will be all the rage at this Saturday's Cellarbrations Ladies Day at Rosehill Gardens.

The event launches the start of the 2014 BMW Sydney Carnival and includes a packed schedule of racing, live entertainment and pampering.

Highlights of the day include the Myer Fashions on the Field competition, the Ladies Lounge, the chance to win a share in the $30,000 Win a Cracking Fortune competition and live entertainment.

On the track, the signature Group 1 races include the $600,000 Coolmore Classic and the $5000,000 Ranvet Stakes.

Apart from the horses, fashionable outfits will also be sported around the track.

Race Day ambassador Laura Csortan said women should feel free to experiment with fashion.

"A lot of women will be experimenting with leather and I've even heard feathers," the TV personality and model said. "Sort of getting edgy with it.

"I definitely think ladies should try and take a risk on the autumn look but make sure it all ties in together. Make sure you follow the classic guidelines like no super-short dresses — it goes below the knees — as well as closed in shoes and no straw hats.

"Men should mix it up with a colourful tie."

Hats and headpieces are a must-wear accessory.

Race Day ambassador Nerida Winter said when it came to choosing a hat or headpiece you need to have an open mind — especially this season with so many looks available.

"There are tartan and leather which gives a modern look," Ms Winter said.

"Feather and fur along with the eclectic winter bloom.

"Some pastels ares perfect for Cellarbrations Ladies Day and there are some sporty influences."

Gates open at 11am.
