Fairfield shopkeeper defends himself against armed thieves

Fairfield police are searching for two men who tried to rob a newsagency.

Police said the men entered the store on Ware Street, demanded cash and threatened a staff member with a crowbar.

They said the employee was then struck on the head when he tried to pick up a chair to defend himself.

Officers said the men then ran away from the store empty-handed.

He was treated for swelling and bruising to his head by paramedics at the scene.

Police describe one of the men involved as being in his 20s and the other as being in his 50s
