Firies head south to help fight bushfires

SIX Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters from Fairfield are helping fight major bushfires in Victoria.

Station officers Dale Wade-Ferrell, Johnathan Moore and Damien Neilly from Cabramatta, station officer Adam Turner-Browne and firefighter Dane McGuinn from Fairfield, and station officer Daniel Butler from Bonnyrigg Heights fire station were among the first of more than 200 firefighters expected to be deployed to Victoria over the next two weeks.

The firefighters worked alongside the Victorian firies over the weekend.

The six firefighters were stationed across four stations in the midst of the fires.

These were:

■Dandenong: Officer Butler

■Morwell: Officer Neilly

■Traralgon: Officer Turner-Browne

■Shepparton: Officers Wade-Ferrell and Moore and firefighter McGuinn

Fire NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins said NSW welcomed the opportunity to return the support to the Victorian Fire Services after they provided assistance to NSW last October when bushfires ravaged the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and central coast of NSW.

"It's a great opportunity for Fire NSW firefighters to work alongside our interstate counterparts," he said.
