WETHERILL Park-based company CSR Viridian has been selected as a finalist in the 2013 WorkCover NSW SafeWork Awards.

The glass provider will be a finalist in the leadership category for its ongoing dedication to improving work health and safety outcomes and reducing incidents and injuries.

Viridian's work, health, safety and environment manager Mark Peagam said they had developed initiatives to improve health and safety for its employees and the wider glass industry.

"Viridian has developed and distributed to the industry a customised safe manual handling guide for the glass industry DVD and training package," he said.

"We have also developed practical solutions with the assistance of a national physical protection equipment provider, including cut-resistant gloves for the glass industry."

He said this had resulted in almost 70 per cent reduction in cuts at Viridian over the past four years.

"These gloves are now available and being used by many companies within the glass industry," he said.

"Workplace safety is central to everything we do at CSR. Safer and more engaged employees deliver better performance at all levels."

CSR Viridian is one of 22 finalists from across NSW. Eight winners from six categories will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on Thursday, October 31.
