CHRIS Bowen has made his first visit to a local TAFE as the new Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research.
He visited the South Western Sydney Institute's Wetherill Park College last Friday.
He met staff and students in four sections including English for speakers of other languages, hair and beauty, nursing and automotive during his hour-long stay.
"TAFE makes a wonderful contribution to our region and to this community," he said.
"I wanted to recognise that by making this TAFE my first port of call."
The college offers training qualifications ranging from nationally recognised certificates to diplomas and advanced diplomas.
"Our focus is skilling for jobs and skilling for employment and lifting the economic capacity of the community," institute director Peter Roberts said.
