Clinical Neuropsychologist (Grade 2), Thomas Embling Hospital, Melbourne, VIC

  • Part-time ongoing position

Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD.

Thomas Embling Hospital is a 136-bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care to both male and female consumers.

About the role:

Joining our supportive, friendly and growing psychology team, this neuropsychology role will be based at Thomas Embling Hospital, working across various units with support from a Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist.

The Clinical Neuropsychologist is based within the Thomas Embling Hospital Psychology and provides clinical input to units across the hospital. The role provides neuropsychological assessments and interventions (e.g., individual and group) to address the cognitive and mental health needs of consumers. In addition to direct assessment and intervention, the Clinical Neuropsychologist provides consultation, advice and support to Forensicare clinicians and other related services where appropriate, regarding neuropsychological matters.

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Masters or Doctoral qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.

  • Eligibility for membership of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists, Australian Psychological Society.

  • Sound theoretical knowledge of clinical neuropsychology including neuropsychological

  • Assessment, neurology, neuropathology and neurobiology, and interventions in acquired brain injury, mental health and alcohol and substance use disorders.

  • Knowledge of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally disordered patients in the forensic mental health setting.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.

  • Experience in the incorporation of research and evaluation practices into clinical practice.

  • Excellent written skills and the ability to prepare reports for a range of audiences, using clear and concise language and presented in a well-reasoned format.

  • Ability to demonstrate well-developed organisational skills, including sound work practice skills and planning, and the ability to manage time, and workforce demands.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and to contribute to a positive team environment.

  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to professional development and supervised practice.

  • Previous working experience in a forensic mental health service would be an advantage.
