Get moving for a good cause

Prairiewood Leisure Centre has joined the social campaign Let’s Move for a Better World  – and it needs your help to reach its goal.

The centre has partnered with Technogym for the campaign with participants training for a good cause with a chance to donate technogym equipment to a non-profit organisation dependent on the amount of training.

The campaign sees participants collect MOVEs (Technogym’s unit of measure for movement) on Technogym equipment.

Each ‘move’ by community participants at the centre between March 12 and March 21 will be counted.

If collectively the centre’s ‘moves’ reach 2.5 million, Fairfield Hospital will receive $10,000 worth of fitness equipment for recovering patients to use.

After two days the centre is ranked second out of 23 centres in Australia.

Last year the centre finished third with more than 1.1 million ‘moves’.

The cardio equipment is free to use from 10am to 4.30pm each day during the campaign to encourage residents to raise ‘moves’ for Fairfield Hospital.

Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone said every step helps to reach the end goal.

“If you’ve been thinking about increasing your fitness, now is a great time to come down to Prairiewood Leisure Centre, meet our helpful staff, try the cardio equipment for free and help Fairfield Hospital,” mayor Carbone said.

“This is a great campaign that is a win for both residents and patients at our local hospital.

“Council takes the community’s health seriously. We have plans for a future Health and Wellbeing Precinct at Cabravale Leisure Centre for the community including seniors, people living with disability and people recovering from health conditions.

“Council is also installing more outdoor fitness equipment this year and there is almost 1000 kilometres of footpaths and cycleways across the city.”
