The David Jones biannual model casting is a hard day's work but someone's got to do it - on Wednesday it was up to the department store's ambassador for the past six years, Jessica Gomes.
With over 150 men and women turning up to audition in the hopes of landing a coveted spot on the autumn/winter 2018 runway and only 40 spots available, Gomes had certain specifications in mind to help narrow the bold and the beautiful.
"I'm looking for someone who has a great walk, carries themselves really well, has a unique sense of style and has confidence," she told Fairfax Media.
In the same week that Victoria Beckham was criticised for featuring what The New York Times described as a "waiflike" model, with "twiglike limbs" in her latest fashion campaign, Gomes said David Jones would not be following suit.
"We are not looking for too skinny. We are looking for all different body types, not a certain weight or measurement - think healthy," she said.
The department store was commended for featuring models in their 40s and 60s in their last parade, and 2018 will be no different.
"We want more diversity when it comes to ethnicity, sizes and ages. We want real people. People from all walks of life," Gomes said.
David Jones' buying manager for womenswear, Teneille Oakley, echoed Gomes' sentiments. "We love strong and athletic men and women and we're renowned for including a diverse range of talent on our catwalk," she said. "We're really excited about the scope of talent we've seen."
Memu Conteh???, 22, originally from Sierra Leone and who now lives in Dee Why, described walking in the last David Jones show as "a blessing" and hopes she will strike it lucky again this year.
"Every model dreams of getting a good brand and David Jones is it. I hope I get it again," Conteh said.
It was Michaela Bennett's first time to audition for the department store, and while the 18-year-old thinks that nerves might have gotten the better of her, she loved the opportunity to get in front some of Australia's biggest names in fashion.
"It so different to what I am used to, but it was really exciting and I can't wait to do more like this in Sydney," she said.
Last month, David Jones announced it had ended its relationship with Jesinta Franklin, wife of Sydney Swans star Lance "Buddy" Franklin, who was an ambassador for two years.
Victoria Lee, a Victoria's Secret model from Narrandera in NSW, will take her place.
Gomes knows her ambassador role won't last forever, so she's enjoying going with the flow.
"I am just happy to be a part of this family. Obviously it's sad when you see people go, like Jason [Dundas] and Jesinta, and I know that is going to happen to me too, it won't be a forever thing, but you just have to have fun with it," she said.
When asked if she would be sticking around for another year, she said: "Maybe, who knows?"
