As the festive season has fully arrived and 2017 draws to a close our city is well and truly kicking into Christmas mode.

Last Thursday night Epoch Plaza was bursting at the seams as residents gathered and shared the spirit of Christmas by participating in Christmas carols and the lighting of the Christmas tree.

The event attracted record crowds and was a great success.

Last Friday the Christmas spirit continued with more crowds taking to the streets for the Starr Partners’ annual trolley drive.

The trolley drive is now in its 14th year.

This event is an amazing experience as youngsters from schools and people from businesses and also residents parade through the main shopping centre with hundreds of trolleys filled with groceries, toys and other items suitable for Christmas gifts for the needy.

This convoy of generosity creates a feel-good atmosphere all the way to its Uniting Church Diner destination which serves over 10,000 meals throughout the year to those in need.

Back to business on the real-estate front, commercial property sales have increased with some great results recently..

Residential sales are currently unpredictable with some properties selling below the reserve price and others breaking records at auction.

Members of the Fairfield business community share the excitement of the new year to come with 12 Urban designed and planned major sites ranging from 2500 square metres to 26,000 square metres in the central business district now on show.

Next year will see the start of these design-excellence landmark signature buildings in the Fairfield city centre.

With Christmas just days away many of our businesses are offering fantastic deals and bargains.

I recommend that gift-buyers look to shop local and take advantage of these savings and support local businesses.

On behalf of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and myself, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families all the best in the coming festive period as we look forward to seeing what awaits this amazing city next year.

A reminder to all motorists that double demerits are running from December 22 to January 1. Be cautious, be safe.
