Are you in good health, have a happy disposition and a few hours to spare each week?
Chisholm Cottage needs more volunteers to keep up with the high demand as a low-cost, shared accommodation service in Westmead.
Cheap accommodation in the health precinct is so limited that many families from regional NSW or interstate who come to Westmead for medical treatment resort to sleeping in their cars.
Operated by Sisters of Charity Outreach, Chisholm Cottage reopened in July following a major refurbishment. Open 365 days a year, it took 112 room bookings out of a possible 120 last month.
Solidly booked in the lead up to Christmas and into 2018, some more pairs of helping hands are urgently needed. All ages over-18 and backgrounds are welcome.
“Volunteers are very important as they keep the costs down so we can pass them onto guests,” accommodation manager Sonia Fingleton said. “You would be helping people from regional NSW have access to reasonably priced accommodation. It’s also a chance to meet new people and an opportunity to be part of the great work the Sisters of Charity does.”
Jobs include taking bookings, administration, preparing rooms for arrival and greeting guests.
“We have a job for everyone,” Mrs Fingleton said. “Some volunteers like being in the garden while others are good on the computer.”
