When Kaitlyn Doan was watching football on television she thought one day she would like to be a referee.

Two years later and the 15-year-old is one of the best in the business.

The Prairiewood High School student has been selected to referee at the Pacific School Games in Adelaide this week.

She will be in charge of games across the four divisions (under-12 boys and girls, under-16 boys and under-18 girls) over the week-long tournament.

I enjoy the challenges of refereeing.

Her selection came off the back of good displays with whistle in hand at the Sydney South West and NSW State Championships.

Kaitlyn splits her time being playing and referring.

This year she was part of the Macarthur Rams under-15s team that made the grand final.

The defender, who lists her favourite player as Sam Kerr, refereed on Saturdays and played on Sundays.

“I just love football and when I saw refereeing advertised I thought why not,” she said. “Player management and how to talk to players has been one of the challenges but I enjoy the challenges of refereeing and meeting new friends.”
