A lot has changed at Mounties Hockey Club over the past 20 years, but one thing has remained the same: Marie Stewart.

The Bossley Park resident has been at the club since it started in 1997.

On Saturday, the club celebrated their 20-year milestone with a presentation dinner at Mounties on Saturday.

Stewart, the original secretary of the club, has held most roles at the club including president, treasurer and registrar.

She said the club was born out of a community need to have a hockey club based in the south-west.

“My daughter was playing at the time and it was a fair away and we wanted something local,” she said.

“So we came up with the idea to ask Mounties to help and that’s how the club started.”

Originally entered in the Parramatta Women’s Hockey Association, the club moved to the turf Macarthur Association in 2011 where it has continued to grow for females and males.

In their first season they had three teams with 33 players which included 18 rep players. In 2017, they had 11 teams and 133 players which included 57 rep players.

The club has had to moved training fields four times to accommodate the growth and currently base themselves at Moorebank Hockey Complex.

This year the club won the Junior Club Championship Point Score award.
