Oatlands golfer Joseph El-Badawi will have a rare opportunity to live a day as a professional next week.
The 16-year-old from Oatlands Golf Club will be one of 74 junior golfers from across NSW to be partnered with an Australasian PGA Tour professional to play on the NSW Open course at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club.
Joseph said it was an honour to be selected by the club to play in the NSW Open Junior Pro-Am.
“It’s a great opportunity to give my best and show what I’m capable of,” he said. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people and new pros as well because hopefully that will be me one day.”
Joseph has been playing golf for the past four years after his cousins encouraged him to take up the sport with a shared dream of going professional.
Although only one has stuck with it, golf has become Joseph’s passion.
In a short amount of time, he has reduced his handicap down to seven and hopes to get down to scratch as soon as possible to make his professional dream a reality.
“Wherever golf takes me, I’ll be there and if it doesn’t take me anywhere, I’ll know that I tried my hardest,” he said. “Pros is where I want to be but if I don’t get there, I’ll still be happy, as long as I gave it my best.”
The NSW Open Junior Pro-Am will run on Wednesday, November 15 at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club in Luddenham, starting at 1pm.
Joseph is looking forward to returning to Twin Creeks.
“I’ve played there once and I loved it but to meet new people and play especially with a pro will be a great honour as well,” he said.
“To represent Oatlands as well will be amazing.”
