TOLL ROADS’ WASTED FUNDS
I’m criticising a decision by the Minister for Transport to cut hundreds of millions of dollars from public transport at a time when pressure on Sydney’s public transport system is rising. At a time when public transport demand has never been higher, it beggars belief that they want to effectively cut the budget of the department which operates and plans public transport across the state. We know their agenda is to slash in-house expertise because these are the people standing up to their poor planning and political agenda. When they cut expertise from public services, they cut out people who can steer Government decisions in the right direction, and prevent cost blowouts and wasteful projects. The Liberal-National Government is wasting billions of dollars on dangerous and polluting toll roads and we’ve seen massive cost blowouts on transport infrastructure projects and yet they want to slash the budget of public servants who can reign in this madness.

I’m writing to thank the Champion and the local community for your support of McHappy Day in 2017 – the largest annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Your community helped us celebrate 26 years of McHappy Day and raise a record-breaking $4 million for RMHC. These donations equate to more than 30,000 nights of accommodation at a Ronald McDonald House, ensuring Aussie families stay together while their sick or injured child is treated. We saw local bucket brigades, Scout groups, emergency services as well as sporting and TV personalities visiting McDonald’s restaurants, to help make a difference. I want to say a big thank-you to your community who helped last weekend, making donations that helped McHappy Day raise more than ever. Fundraising is crucial to helping RMHC continue expand programs and services to families who need them, as many of the Ronald McDonald Houses across the country have waiting lists and can’t accommodate everyone who needs help. You can donate to rmhc.org.au all year round.
