Christmas could come early for Westmead Hospital.
Its much anticipated and highly spruiked multistorey car park is due to open in December. Construction on the eight storey, $72 million project has almost finished. Testing and commissioning is due to start soon.
But there’s questions as to who will benefit after the Sun was told that 900 of the 1250 spots will be for the 5000 staff, a claim that was neither confirmed or denied.
“Westmead Hospital management are currently implementing strategies to manage the demand for car parking,” general manager Andrew Newton said.
“We are working through the allocation process for the new multistorey car park. Patients and visitors will have access to more spaces in the multistorey car park, along with the existing multistorey car park close to the main building. Throughout construction, management has ensured there has been – and will continue to be – no net loss of parking spaces.”
Mr Newton said that staff parking fees will change when the new facility opens.
“We are working hard to ensure the changes to car parking accommodate the current and future workforce across the campus,” he said.
