Parramatta Eels rugby league great Peter Sterling said he was a “fan” of Bunnings when opening the new Bonnyrigg Warehouse store on Thursday.
The new store replaces the previous warehouse located next door and features an indoor timber trade sales area with a four-lane drive-thru, building materials and landscape supplies yard.
Sterling joined Bunnings Managing Director Michael Schneider, Bunnings Warehouse Bonnyrigg Complex Manager Andrew Shalala and staff for the official festivities after first opening on Monday.
He participated in a one-on-one question session where he talked about stories from his playing days and the moment he became a fan of Bunnings for life.
“It stems from my first visit. I’m not a DIY person unlike my wife and the first time I went to Bunnings I didn’t know what I was looking for but I kinda knew what I wanted and I needed help and that’s what I got,” he said.
“From that moment on the direction I got, the options that were pointed out to me, the advice as to what I really needed, it made what could have been a difficult and almost daunting visit, a really enjoyable one
“The best advice I have ever been given is someone once told me find your obsession and make it your profession and you will never work a day in your life. I lived that and I get the sense of that here. There is a nice vibe about the place.”
The new Bunnings will have an approximate total store size of 15,000 square metres and as well as the main warehouse that will stock a larger range, it will include:
- Outdoor nursery.
- A 25-modular kitchen display.
- An indoor playground, café and D.I.Y. workshop area.
- Parking for approximately 370 cars.
Mr Shalala said they will continue to lend a helping hand in the local community.
“Team members have supported a number of community groups already, working together to assist in local community projects including renovating the kitchen at Bonnyrigg Police Citizens Youth Club and planting garden beds at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance,” he said.
“Bunnings is always looking for opportunities to contribute to local causes and we look forward to providing assistance to more Bonnyrigg community groups in the future.”
Mr Shalala said a number of new team members were qualified tradespeople who could provide local residents with expert advice for their projects. Every weekend, team members will continue to provide free D.I.Y. Workshops.
The new Bunnings Warehouse will continue to provide ongoing support to local community groups to raise funds for a variety of causes by hosting famous Bunnings Sausage Sizzles.
All staff members of the old store transferred to the new store and joined by 40 new team members to take the the total team to more than 150.
- The new Bunnings Warehouse Bonnyrigg is located at 1-9 Bonnyrigg Avenue, Bonnyrigg.
