Man charged after alleged robbery of woman in Fairfield

A man will face court today on several charges following the alleged armed robbery of a woman in Fairfield.

Police have been told a woman and her 18-month-old child returned to her vehicle on Nelson Street Fairfield about 5.15pm on Tuesday, August 8.

After placing the child into the car and moving to the driver’s seat, a man, allegedly armed with a knife, entered the vehicle, and threatened the woman before demanding cash.

The woman handed over a sum of cash and other personal items, before the man exited the vehicle and was last seen running toward Ware Street.

Officers attached to Fairfield Local Area Command commenced an investigation into the indecent.

Just after 10pm on Wednesday, August 9, officers were making inquiries on Hamilton Road, Fairfield, where they arrested a 26-year-old man.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, attempted robbery, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension and deal with the proceeds of crime.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Thursday 10 August 2017).
