Fairvale High School walked away from the recent NSW High Schools' Handball Championships with a gold and silver medal.

The boys’ team won a nail-biting final against Turramurra High School 12-11 to be crowned state champions at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre last month.

A goal in the final 15 seconds of the game sealed the result. Fairvale student Leslie Sefo scored the most goals in the tournament.

In the girls’ division, Fairvale lost a tight final to Turramurra High School 8-7.

Fairvale student Temukisa Ioane was named the goalkeeper of the tournament.

The teams were coached by the school's Personal Development, Health and Physical Education teacher, Fay Prevezanos.

The school has a long association with the championships dating back to 2008. The school previously won the boys tournament in 2015.

Nine schools competed in the boys and girls divisions, including new schools Balgowlah Boys High School and Rosebank College.
