Family and friends gather to remember Antonia Megale

Isabella Leonello described her grandmother Antonia Megale as “the kind of person who would invite you to Christmas lunch off the street.”

“She was so full of life. She came here from Italy with nothing, raising five daughters on the family farm at Luddenham,” she said.

Last month Ms Leonello organised a Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event in Bossley Park in memory of her grandmother who passed away in 2016.

Mrs Megale was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2013.

The event was attended by 45 people and raised more than $6000 for Cancer Council NSW.

“I’m so thrilled at what we were able to achieve. My fundraising goal was $3000. To double that was beyond exciting,” she said.

“I was really shocked at what people were willing to give.”

As part of the morning tea, there was trivia and guessing games. Businesses contributed raffle prizes, while others donated chairs, balloons and flowers.

“We set up a marquee in the front yard and mum helped with the cooking,” she said.

“The whole marquee was covered in photos of my grandmother.”
