At only 18, singer Dylan Rass fits the bill for the Bring It On! Festival – young, ambitious and talented.
The social media star is the latest in a growing list of young talent confirmed for NSW’s largest Youth Week event on April 9.
Rass said he was excited to perform a range of covers and some new original songs he has been working on at the Fairfield Showground.
He is equally delighted to have a platform to speak to aspiring musicians about their music – especially posting videos online.
“A lot of people message me saying they are scared to post a video because they will get some hate. I tell them not really to worry because if someone is giving you hate for your happiness, that is kind of sad,” he said.
“My advice is to be yourself. There is always going to be someone who wants to be the next Ed Sheeran or next Shawn Mendes.
“But being yourself, no one can do that and you’re going to be the best at it – and most off all have fun.”
April is a big month for the New Zealand-born singer.
Not only will he perform at the Bring It On! Festival alongside the likes of In Stereo, Vlado Saric, The Fisher Boys and Sisters Doll, he will headline his first ever concert at the Metro Theatre on April 29.
It’s a long way from when he was posting videos on Instagram with only a couple of hundred followers.
“I posted a 5 Seconds of Summer cover of She Looks So Perfect and actually got one of the words wrong but the song got a good reaction. It got 500 likes which was more followers then I had which was really cool,” Rass said.
“My fan base started to grow from there and I got on a couple of music Instagram pages and some One Direction fan pages and then I started posting videos on YouTube.
“My most viewed cover is Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself.”
Rass said he “can’t wait” to perform at the Bring It On! Festival where Fat Pizza and Housos creator Paul Fenech has been confirmed to MC the dance competition.
“There is a great line-up and all very talented performers,” he said.
“I know the In Stereo boys from last year’s Amplify tour and they are really cool guys so I’m looking forward to meeting the others.
“My aim is to produce a high-energy show and make people smile.”
