Man charged over firearm and drug offences

An Ermington man has faced court after being charged with a number of firearm and drug offences over the weekend.

Rosehill police said officers searched a Boyle Avenue home at about 7am on Friday, March 10. 

During the search, officers allegedly located a .22 rifle, a homemade .410 shotgun and ammunition, as well as more than 240 milligrams of methylamphetamine.

They also seized a large quantity of items including power tools that are believed to have been stolen or illegally obtained.

Proactive Crime Team officers, who had been part of a month-long investigation, arrested a man, 65, at the home.

The man was taken to Parramatta police station where he was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing an unregistered firearm and possessing ammunition without a licence. 

He was also charged with two counts of not keeping an firearm safely, supplying a prohibited drug, three counts of possessing a prohibited drug and goods in custody.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, March 11.

Man charged after pursuit

A man was arrested after crashing his motorcycle and running from police after officers attempted to pull him over in Rydalmere.

Police said officers from Rosehill were patrolling Victoria Road at about 4.30am on Saturday, March 11, when they attempted to stop a motorcycle due to the manner of riding.

A pursuit began when the motorcycle accelerated from police, travelling into Park Road where the rider lost control and crashed on a roundabout at South Street.

Police said the rider then ran down Antoine Street before being stopped by police and arrested. The man, 29, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for suspected shoulder and leg injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital.

The motorbike was towed from the scene and inquiries are continuing. The rider is expected to be charged after he is released from hospital.
