Saturday’s final-round loss to the University of New South Wales typified Fairfield Liverpool’s NSW Premier Cricket season.

Without a doubt, it was a season of missed opportunities.

Sent into the bat, the Lions managed 8-209 off their 50 overs at Rosedale Oval.

Dean Attard (76) took his season tally to a team high of 598 runs with his third half-century of the year to anchor the home team's tally.

He was well supported by both Luke Ohrynowsky (35) and Matthew Harivel (31).

In reply, the visitors were cruising at 2-116 before a string of wickets kept the Lions in the game.

Charles Wakim (106 not out) proved the difference as he held his nerve to hit the winning runs with one wicket in hand.

The Sandhu brothers – Harmon (3-28) and Gurinder (3-38) – were the pick of the bowlers as the University of New South Wales team reached the target with three overs to spare.

The Lions’ 12th loss of the season means that they finished the NSW Premier Cricket season in 19th place on 12 points.

The Lions’ Medal Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 8, at Canley Heights RSL Club when the special guest speaker will be Stuart Macgill.
