We have also just gone past the third day in the Battle for Mosul in Iraq, where Iraqi and Kurdish forces with assistance from the US are trying to wrest the city from Islamic State. The latest news on Mosul is that the road there is littered with traps. A worry for soldiers, for civilians trying to flee and those trying to return to villages already liberated.
On less dangerous streets, the Vatican's decorum police have erased a mural depicting Pope Francis as a graffitti-artist advocating piece. It was quiet nice, actually.
