Man charged after Parramatta building fire

A 21-year-old man will face court today, October 17 after an overnight building fire in Parramatta.

Just before 8.30pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Victoria Road and Church Street, Parramatta, where they found a building well alight.

The commercial building was vacant and no-one was inside at the time.

Fire and Rescue NSW personnel extinguished the blaze, which had engulfed the second storey. 

Officers from Parramatta Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

The property sustained extensive damage.

As a result of inquiries at the scene, a 21-year-old man was arrested in a nearby street.

He was charged with damaging a property by fire or explosion causing damage of more than $15,000.

The 21-year-old was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on October 17.
