Sausage fest: Can you eat eight sausages (or wurst) in 60 seconds?

Parramatta’s Bavarian Bier Cafe will get into the Oktoberfest spirit this Saturday (October 15) with a sausage eating challenge.

The current world record is held by a New Zealander, who scoffed down eight sausages in 60 seconds in 2001.

Six contenders can take on the challenge across three heats between noon and 2.30pm on Saturday.

Prizes include a $1000 dining voucher for contenders who beat the record and a $500 bar tab for the fastest time across the three heats.

All contenders will receive prizes for their efforts.

Onlookers can stay on afterwards to enjoy Oktoberfest biers and the Bavarian-inspired menu or take the Schnitzelmeister challenge. Devour a one kilogram veal schnitzel and side dishes in an hour to receive the meal for free. Almost 500 customers have tried, but only seven have successfully completed the challenge.
