With the radical election rollercoaster ride done and dusted, we congratulate the successors on their victory.

The Fairfield City Chamber of Commerce, along with the community, hope our newly-elected mayor and council representatives put their differences aside and unite, forming strong leadership to cater for our growing city’s needs and future.

Speaking of the future, various Chamber of Commerce and influential community leaders had the pleasure of participating in the Greater Sydney Commission South West District briefing.

Commissioner Sheridan Dudley provided information of how The Greater Sydney Commission is embarking on something new for Sydney, planning for six ‘districts’ to connect local planning with the longer-term metropolitan planning for Greater Sydney – a big picture approach to better co-ordinate state and local government planning.

One of these districts is the South West District which includes the council areas of Fairfield, Liverpool, Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly.

During the briefing representatives of the groups provided valuable information of our city’s needs for consideration.

Fairfield City Chamber of Commerce requested upgrades to major roads, commuter parking stations at the region’s train stations, an increase to developments to offer more housing, revitalisation of the Fairfield CBD and a substantial upgrade to Fairfield hospital.

The District Plan will help us to plan sensibly. It will underpin our planning for a resilient future that balances new housing, urban renewal, the proposed airport development and locations for jobs, with the protection of natural assets.

The strategic plan will be a combined review of a plan for growing Sydney, long infrastructure strategy developed across government, ensuring a coordinated and aligned approach to the way we plan for Sydney’s future.

We anticipate that this information will assist in a greater understanding of Fairfield City’s needs which is imperative in the budgeting for future funding and infrastructure.

Just a reminder it’s fiesta time! Culinary Carnivale, the Spanish and Latin American food festival, is on Saturday, October 22, 11am-4pm, in Spencer and Ware Streets, Fairfield.
