AFTER being diagnosed with cancer for the second time, Frank Oliveri knows all about the trauma attached to the disease.
That's why the former Fairfield councillor is taking part in this year's Fairfield Relay For Life, to raise funds for the Cancer Council.
"I've been through cancer myself three-and-a-half years ago, and going through intensive chemotherapy I understand exactly what is involved with being diagnosed with cancer, and the treatment to overcome it," he said.
"Now that I'm going through it [cancer] a second time, being diagnosed with something similar, I have decided to focus my time to the cause.
"The fact is that being young and understanding that you need to keep a positive mindset to get through it. I also want to play a role in other people's lives."
His wife Katrine will join him in the relay.
Mr Oliveri has already raised $3750 and hopes to reach $5000.
"It's a community event and it's about bringing people together, as well as rasing awareness about cancer and funds," she said.
"Hopefully, one day there will be a cure for it."
