Back to basics: Brick is a great way to add depth and texture to your home interior. Exposed brick walls provide the perfect compliment for industrial style decor.
THE humble brick is more than a staple building material.
Architects, designers and homeowners are embracing brick’s durability and aesthetic flexibility to create unique designs.
“We are seeing a resurgence in the use of brick to create features inside and out,’’ said PGH Bricks and Pavers general manager of marketing and strategy Michelle Gissel.
‘‘Using PGH Bricks and Pavers’ range homeowners can embrace textures, shapes, colours and finishes to inject life into their designs.’’ Ms Gissel provided five ways to use bricks creatively:
- Interior featurewalls can add texture and a creativity for entrances and bespoke interior spaces. ‘‘Bricks can create any look from crisp and contemporary monochromatic or glassy finishes using glazed bricks, to industrial and warehouse inspired interiors with dry pressed bricks,’’ Ms Gissel said.
- Create a recycled look by blending bricks with different textures and colours, such as natural wood or metal.
- Maintain privacy without sacrificing design with a brick screen.
- Go against the grain with wire cut bricks. ‘‘Exposing the inside of a brick on exterior walls adds character,’’ she said.
- Demonstrate artistic flair by using patterns in brickwork.
