EVERYONE loves a water slide, but forget heading to Wet’n’Wild.
An epic 325 metre-long water slide is taking over a street in Rouse Hill for one day only on Sunday, December 27.
Called The City Slider, the two-lane slide will be set up on Withers Road — between Annangrove and Mile End Roads — taking up the equivalent of three city blocks.
‘‘The day is all about having fun, getting wet, sliding and music — what’s not to like?’’ said The City Slider co-founder Matt Elmer.
He said this would be their first event in Sydney. ‘‘It’s hard to find the right street for the event; in Sydney it’s even more difficult, due to it being so busy and most roads can’t be closed for a 30-hour period,’’ he said.
‘‘This road ticked a lot of the boxes to make the event happen in the area.
“It has been an interesting project to explain to people. If you tell someone you want to set up a 325-metre water slide in the middle of the city — they think you are crazy.
“It’s so massive and spectacular that it takes a while for people to wrap their heads around the concept. Once we show them a video, people get very excited.’’
The slide is 6metres wide, 325metres long and has a layer of 40millimetre foam underneath it for a soft landing.
There are fast sections and slower sections.
‘‘Fast enough to be fun, but not too fast people can get injured,’’ Mr Elmer said.
‘‘We have capacity for approximately 3500 [people] across the entire 12 hours; around 600 [people] for each 90-minute session.
‘‘It takes around eight hours to set up.
‘‘We work overnight, between 10pm and 6am, to get it done. Pack down takes around the same time.’’
There will be a limited early bird ticket release at 9am this Monday, November 30. Once this release sells out, regular tickets go on sale.
The alcohol-free, family-friendly event was announced last week as part of The Hills Council’s Summer Series program, which also includes a inflatable water theme park — coming to Bella Vista Farm Park on Saturday, December 26 to Tuesday, January 26.

■ Free slide: A free mini-slider (25 metres long) will be available throughout the day for visitors under 110cm.
