Lion dancers look forward to the big day Dedication brings delight

LION dancers will hit the streets of Cabramatta to celebrate the Moon Festival on September 23.

The traditional dance is performed each year to celebrate the event.

The routine involves two dancers who dress themselves in a lion costume and mimic the lion's movements to the beat of the cymbals and drums.

Groups such as the Cabramatta High School lion dancers have been perfecting their routine in the lead-up to the festival.

Year 9 student Peter Tran says it's one of the busiest times of year for him.

"It's really fun to perform for events like the Moon Festival and Chinese new year," he said. "I've been performed since year 7 and I really love it."

Classmate Ricki Heart Nguyen has been lion dancing for the last eight years.

"I feel like I've been doing it pretty much my whole life," he said.

"The Moon Festival is one of the best times of year for me, especially because I get to hang out with my family and friends."

The Cabramatta High School students willingly sacrifice their free time after school hours and during the holidays.
