Greens promise more local input

THE Greens senator Lee Rhiannon visited Fairfield Council yesterday morning to support her fellow candidates in the prepoll of the upcoming election.

Ms Rhiannon told the Champion she was hoping to get some Greens candidates elected to the council on September 8 in a bid to make changes to the area.

"If elected, we'll push to have the council's free buses made electric, we'll get more exercise equipment in the local park so people of all ages can use it and we'll try to provide more community services," she said.

"We're also concerned about the new planning laws. The Coalition made a promise to repeal the laws made by Labor and they did but they made them worse.

"The community will now have no say when it comes to big developments such as the one at Abbotsbury. That's why we're working so hard to get the Greens on the council."
