A COMMEMORATIVE service to mark this year's Battle for Australia Day will be held at Smithfield's McCarthy Memorial Park on September 5.
The day serves as a marker of battles fought in 1942 including the Battle of the Coral Sea, Battle of Milne Bay and the Kokoda Track campaign.
Smithfield RSL Sub-branch president, Bill Newall, said there would be a wreath-laying ceremony to remember the fallen of World War II.
"This event is extremely important," he said. "It means different things to different people.
"Some people will attend because they lost family members in those battles, while others will be there because of their patriotism."
He said local students, a piper, singer and Smithfield state Liberal MP Andrew Rohan would also attend.
"We're also expecting to have a lot of ex-servicemen and women in attendance," Mr Newall said.
The ceremony will start at 11am. Details: 9604 4411.
