THE Parramatta Eels preseason has started on a losing note, going down to the Wests Tigers 20-4 at Anzac Oval in Alice Springs at the weekend.

With temperatures hovering in the mid-30s, the game was a tough hit- out for both teams with both clubs using extended squads for the match.

The Eels play their second trial against Penrith at Pepper Stadium, Penrith on Saturday.

Holden Cup graduate Fabian Goodall was the lone try-scorer for the blue and golds.

Halfback Luke Kelly (right) said there was plenty of work to do before round one.

"But everyone got a bit of a run, and I think everyone survived the heat — which is a plus. We can definitely improve," Kelly said.

"You can't give any team that amount of ball, especially in this heat; it was always going to take its toll on us.

The Parramatta Eels start their 2015 campaign, against Manly, at Pirtek Stadium on Friday, March 6.
