Miranda police have arrested a Guildford West man, 27, after a brawl yesterday at a junior rugby league tournament at Woolooware.
Westfield Sports and Hills Sports high schools were competing in the final of the University Shield at Remondis Stadium when a fight involving players and spectators erupted.
Police said a player was punched once in the face after being approached by the Guildford West man.
The pair were separated immediately and the man was arrested as he left the stadium.
He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will appear in Sutherland Court on September 17.
The fight followed an earlier disagreement between one of the arrested man’s relatives and some spectators over the level of noise directed at players.
A NSWRL spokesman said it was investigating the incident with both schools.
Cronulla Sharks media manager Rob Willis said it was a matter for the schools which had hired the ground.
