She Rides campaign rolls into Parramatta

The She Rides campaign which focuses on creating a fit, healthy and social environment for over 30s women has rolled into Parramatta.

Created by Cycling Australia the project aims to bridge the gap in the under-representation of female cyclists in Australia.

In 2013 Cyling Australia undertook a research study into women and cycling. They discovered fitness and health, together with the fun social aspect, were the top reasons women choose to ride.

The research however, also revealed that more women would ride, or ride more regularly, if they felt safer, had access to other women who ride at the same level or access to organised group rides, something which the She Rides project is tackling head on.

"The She Rides Program is important because it provides a supportive, encouraging, fun and motivating environment for women to develop their skills and confidence to ride in both traffic situations and offroad environments," said Cycling Australia She Rides spokesperson Alexandra Bright.

The Parramatta chapter of She Rides is being run by Charlene Bordley, an accredited Cycling Australia coach. Bordley believes that the impact of the program extends far beyond just fitness benefits.

"The thing I love about riding is the freedom. It's a timeout from the business of life. It allows me to explore my local area, clear my mind and meet new friends. I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and to forming a supportive group atmosphere for other woman," said Bordley.
