Woman hit by van in Fairfield

A woman has died after being hit by a van in Fairfield on Saturday night.

At 6:10pm, a 62-year-old woman was crossing Polding Street with two relatives when she was hit by a van.

Police said the woman stopped in the middle of the road before attempting to run to the southern kerb but was struck by a Toyota HiAce van and thrown onto the roadway.

Police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Fairfield Hospital where she died a short time later.

A 52-year-old man, who was driving the van, was not injured but taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
