Bus driver intervenes as girl repeatedly groped by man

A man has been charged after he repeatedly groped a teenage girl on a bus, even as she tried to escape him, police allege.

The 15-year-old girl got on a bus at Mt Druitt station to travel to Granville on Saturday afternoon when a 35-year-old man got up from the back seat and sat near her, police said.

He then began speaking to her and allegedly indecently assaulted her.

When the teenager tried to get off the bus at Bridge Street, Granville, the man allegedly blocked her exit.

Police said the bus driver then tried to intervene, but the man allegedly assaulted the girl again.

"The bus driver was made aware that something was occurring. He's directed the man to get off the bus and he called police," acting Inspector Steve Moss, from Holroyd local area command, said.

"The police were right there and they've managed to get him before he got off the bus."

Officers arrested the man, and he was charged with indecent assault of a person under 16, and commit an act of indecency with a person under 16 years.

The Fairfield man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on September 24.
