MORE than 1200 students from 24 local high schools attended the Seek-a-Skill hands-on careers expo at Fairfield High School last month.
The event offered students the chance to speak with employers in a range of fields, including jobs in human services and health care.
The event was divided into three sections including a hands-on careers expo, an address from an expert panel as well as a question-and-answer session.
Fowler MP Chris Hayes said the expo offered young people an insight into the skills required to secure jobs.
"The youth unemployment rate is at an average of 20 per cent in my electorate and over 30 per cent in some parts," he said.
"This careers expo will help address these challenges by ensuring our young people can see the different jobs pathways available and try out the equipment used."
