New look: Melina Pretti, whose family has just sold the family business, with Sharon Begovich, the new owner.

AFTER more than 35 years in the real estate business, the owners of First National Pretti Real Estate are hanging up the keys of their office.

Len and Melina Pretti have handed over their business to the principal and licensee of LJ Hooker Fairfield, Sharon Begovich.

"Ms Begovich has taken over our large established family business, including our staff, systems and premises," Mrs Pretti said.

"We could not think of anyone more experienced in real estate, a woman with good business ethics and values, well known in the local area, to continue our family legacy."

The Pretti Family would like to extend their congratulations to Ms Begovich.

"We wish Sharon, her sister Maree Culmone and LJ Hooker staff all the very best and continuedl success for years to come."

Ms Begovich, who has been in real estate for 22 years and has owned LJ Hooker since 2002, said she had always been looking for opportunities to expand.

Her father had been a property developer so had always been around houses in some form.

Although she had quailified as an accountant some years ago and didn't feel it was suited to her Ms Begovich has found the finance knowledge extremely useful in her current role.

"The future is volatile but I feel that this area is still a good market — very affordable — without the ups and downs of the city," she said.

Ms Begovich who now has the biggest rent roll in the district — doubled since taking over new agency — is among the top 5 per cent of real estate in Australia

"We now have the largest property market locally with 23 staff," she said.
