CECIL Park resident Andrew Grima doesn't have a half-bad record in half marathons.

One race; one win.

In fact when you consider Andrew is just 12, it is half amazing and half brilliant.

The Trinity Catholic Primary School pupil came first in the under-12s age group at the recent Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon.

Andrew's time of one hour, 53 minutes and 52 seconds placed him 4132 out of 9321 total finishers - not bad considering he was the youngest member in the field.

The motivation to improve for next year's race is strong for the year 6 student.

Not only does he want to beat his time; he wants to beat his dad Simon who he competed with as part of Team Addiction.

"It was very special to run with my dad and compete against him," said Andrew, who only started running in August.

"I am also looking forward to doing many more runs and can't wait till next year when I will do this run again and try and beat my dad."
