Chedid: Light rail, long-term growth

Parramatta lord mayor John Chedid reiterated the need for light rail between Parramatta and Epping at a western Sydney leaders' forum last week.

Speaking at a Urban Development Industry of Australia event at Sydney Olympic Park alongside four other western Sydney mayors, Cr Chedid said the region's councils should get on with the job of long-term regional planning by working on the delivery of the "much-needed" infrastructure.

"I believe it's critical," Cr Chedid said. "We don't want to be talking about this in 20 years."

Cr Chedid said a light rail service for Parramatta would stimulate the area's economy by connecting people with jobs.

"It's going to help us deliver better investment and better services," Cr Chedid said. "Economies are built around growth."

He said it would reduce congestion on Windsor and Pennant Hills roads across several council areas.

"That's why we're working with the councils around us, including Hills, on our light rail proposal."
