BOSSLEY Park's Thamir Shamaon was recently honoured for the contribution he has made to the community.

He was presented with the NSW Multicultural Community Medal by the then premier Barry O'Farrell at the annual NSW Premier's Harmony Dinner in April.

The 19-year-old said it was essential that young people worked together and volunteered their time to help others.

"I want to encourage the youth community in NSW to reach out to others and help all citizens come to understand and appreciate the benefits of living in a multicultural society," he said.

"It's truly a distinct and rewarding experience."

Earlier this year, Mr Shamaon was also presented with the NSW Government Community Service Award.
