Holroyd to sign Parramatta Road MOU

Holroyd council will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NSW Planning and nine other councils with a frontage on Parramatta Road on the governance of the busy western Sydney road.

On May 6 councillors voted in favour of the MOU, which outlines governance arrangements from April 2014 to March 2015 for the Parramatta Road Urban Renewal Program, establishes the council’s involvement in the road's long term planning and outlines the timing of delivery.

The MOU will also see the establishment of a Parramatta Road mayor’s group.

In 2013, council officers attended a five-day workshop for the WestConnex Revitalisation Project, now renamed the Parramatta Road Urban Renewal Program, to identify key issues with the road’s proposed revitalisation.

In mid February this year, Holroyd council officers attended a two-day workshop followed by a mayors and general managers forum on February 20 chaired by the Planning & Infrastructure Minister Brad Hazzard and former Roads Minister Duncan Gay.

Under the MOU, the ten councils along Parramatta Road will be grouped into three precinct working groups, with Holroyd within the western precinct alongside Parramatta, Auburn and Strathfield councils.
