A Faifield Heights man will be charged with assaulting police and animal cruelty following an incident at Smithfield last week.
Police were called to a community hall on Brennan Street about 9.30pm on Friday, May 2 following reports uninvited people were refusing to leave a party.
Officers from Fairfield Local Area Command attended and spoke to the group, who were allegedly acting aggressively.
Police allege a man approached a male senior constable and attempted to assault him before kicking a police dog to the ribs.
The dog then bit the 20-year-old man on the arm before he was arrested.
He was taken to Fairfield Police Station before being taken to Liverpool Hospital where he was treated for a bite wound.
The Fairfield Heights man will be issued a court attendance notice for assault police and cruelty to animal.
He’s expected to appear at Fairfield Local Court on a date to be set.
